In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful,
In 8 days, I will graduate from college insha’Allah*. I am starting this blog to keep me on track on seeking knowledge. I will assign myself insha’Allah at least two “readings” every week, with each reading being about the length of an article or a chapter in a book. For each reading, I intend to write either a précis, a book-report style post, personal reflections, or some combination of the above. The idea is to process what I read more thoroughly than I would if I were to read casually. My interests include: philosophy, Islam, psychology, popular science, mathematics, history, cultural studies, international relations, architecture, economics, etc. Many of these readings will probably be from my textbooks and other readings from my college courses that I haven’t had the chance to read or those that I would like to re-read. However, I will start first iA with the books that I have borrowed from my college library because I need to return them soon. In short, the purpose of this blog is to help me to be a student forever, and seek knowledge until the day I die. If you want to go deeper, however, the real motivation behind this blog is my burning desire to know the truth. For me, it is a spiritual pursuit, a path that allows me to become closer to Allah. I sincerely hope that I will have the patience and the steadfastness to keep this up and may Allah help us all to acquire beneficial knowledge, ameen.
*insha’Allah means God willing. I’m a Muslim, so every time I say I will or I’m going to do something in the future, I need to say this little phrase (c.f. http://quran.com/18/23-24). Its unofficial abbreviation is “iA”.
